27th Annual QSS Conference

I know it’s kind of short notice, but QSS of North America will be holding it’s 27th Annual Conference December 25th through 29th at QSSC here in Toronto.

This year, Shaikh Akram bin Muhammad Ziyâdah al-Athari from Jordan will be visiting us (for the 2nd time, if I’m not mistaken). I can’t recall how long he’ll be staying with us this trip, but he should be here at least a week, maybe more. He’ll be staying with us for three weeks and during the conference he’ll be going over the book ‘Amal al-Yawm wal-Lailah (trans. The Day’s & Night’s Deed) by Imam Ahmad bin Shu’aib an-Nasâ’î. Afterwards he’ll be visiting various mosques around the GTA.

For those of you wanting to attend in person, QSSC is located @ 1865B Lawrence Ave. East in Scarborough (as usual, please avoid parking in the plaza parking lot and try to find a spot on either the Laxford or Wexford side streets). For those who can’t but would like to benefit, as was the case with past conferences, I’m guessing the lectures will be broadcast live online via QSSC.org, and later uploaded to QSSC’s YouTube channel. For more details regarding the lecture schedule and other things, keep an eye on the QSSC site for updates.

Ali Hasan al-Halabi Visit to Toronto 2013

It slipped my mind to post up about this conference, but since my blog’s been pretty dead the last few years, can you really blame me? This is Shaikh Ali Hasan al-Halabi’s first visit to Toronto in about four years or so. The shaikh’s been invited several times between then and now, but for some reason, hasn’t been all that lucky getting a visa to allow him to enter the country. To Allah is the praise, this time he was able to obtain one and he’s been here with us for the past week, having arrived on Saturday, August 31st.

He’s been giving regular talks from September 1st, up until today, which should be his last scheduled talk. I, myself, haven’t been able to attend any of the talks due to my work schedule, but the praise is Allah’s, I did get a chance to drop by QSSC at the end of the first Sunday of the shaikh’s visit (Sept. 1st), and see and greet the shaikh. I also got the opportunity to see and hang with my dear friends Abu Usamah Atthahabi and Navaid Aziz, who dropped by after their talks at this year’s Words of Wisdom Conference were done. I also got to spend some time with a couple of my dear friends, Ali Sabir and Amer Shoeb, from QSSNA in Detroit—not too bad a consolation prize, me thinks.

In any case, for those of you, who like me, missed the talks live, I thought I’d post the videos that have been recorded and uploaded to YouTube. Videos are after the jump (I’ll also update to post the remaining videos being recorded today when they’re uploaded all videos are up).

26th Annual QSS Conference

Yup, it’s that time again. It’s a bit late notice, but details of this year’s QSS Annual Conference have just been released on their mailing list. Originally, three scholars were announced as having been invited this year, but so far only one has received his visa: Shaikh Akram bin Muhammad Ziyadah. Of the many shaikhs he studied under and benefitted from, the most notable are Shaikhs ‘Abdul-‘Aziz bin Abdillah bin Baz, Muhammad Nasir ad-Din al-Albani, Muqbil bin Hadi al-Wadi’i, Muhammad bin Isma’il al-Imrani, Abdur-Rahman bin Mahdi ad-Dailami adh-Dhimari, and Muhammad Ibrahim Shaqrah. He is one of he many shaikhs involved with the al-Albani Center in Jordan. Anyone interested in reading more about the shaikh can check out his biography on Wikipedia (Arabic).

This year’s conference will be broken up into two parts. The first part will take place Dec. 24th through to the 26th, where the shaikh will be explaining the book al-Fatawa al-Hamawiyyah al-Kubra by Shaikh of Islam Ibn Taimiyyah. The second will start on Dec. 28th and conclude on the 30th, where the shaikh will be explaining Imam Abu Shamah al-Maqdisi’s Mukhtasar al-Mu’ammal fi ar-Radd Ila al-Amr al-Awwal.

Please refer back to www.qssc.org for more details and lecture schedules for the conference.

Update below the jump.

Four Month Course @ QSSC

I’m a bit late in mentioning this, considering that they started this past Saturday, but I thought better late than never, right?

QSSC will be holding course studying two books every Saturday at the centre, from ‘asr prayer, going all the way to ‘isha prayer. The two books that will be taught are A’lam as-Sunnah al-Manshurah by the late Shaikh Hafidh bin Ahmad al-Hakami and al-Wabil as-Sayyib min al-Kalim at-Tayyib by Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, may Allah have mercy on them both. The first book being covered from asr to maghrib, and the second from maghrib to ‘isha. At the end of the course (they’re hoping to finish by the end of February), the brother and sister with the highest grade will be awarded an ‘Umrah trip each (may Allah reward the generous brother who donated this as a charity). Anyone wanting to register or merely get more information on the course, you can find the email sent out on the QSSC mailing list after the jump.
