Summarized Biography of Shaikh Muhammad al-Maghrâwî

He is Shaikh Muhammad bin ‘Abdir-Rahman al-Maghrâwî from the tribe of Awlâd Nâsir. He was born the year 1367H corresponding to 1948CE in the al-Ghurfah district of Er-Rachidia in southern Morocco. His father took him to school when he was five and he finished memorization of the Qur’an when he was ten. Then he joined the Islamic Institute in Meknes, a branch of the University of Al-Karaouine, then the Ibn Yūsuf Institute for Proper Education in Marrakech where he studied the preparatory stage and the first year of secondary. Then he travelled to the Prophetic City (i.e., Madînah) to complete studies and he joined the Islamic University; Shaikh Muhammad Taqî ad-Dîn al-Hilâlî, may Allah have mercy on him, was his aid in that since he was the one who wrote in his handwriting vouching for him and sent the dossier seeking acceptance himself. Then he finished the secondary education, then the university [education], then he acquired the doctorate certificate from it.

He Took [From] and Studied with Many Shaikhs; From Them Are:

He studied in the Ibn Yūsuf Institute for Proper Education in Marrakech, then he studied in the University of Tâ’if in Saudi, and he studied in the University of Al-Karaouine in Morocco: [Qur’anic] exegesis, Hadîth and creed.

He carried out preaching, teaching, and delivering lectures in the course of three decades in the mosques of Marrakech and in the widespread Qur’an houses in the different regions of Morocco.

He established Jam’iyyah ad-Da’wah Ilâl-Qur’an was-Sunnah bil-Maghrib (The Invitation to the Qur’an and Sunnah Society of Morocco) and opened dozens of Qur’an houses, which were—and have not ceased—having great virtue (after Allah, glorified is He) in returning the people to their correct religion established upon the Book and the Sunnah with the understanding of the predecessors of the [Muslim] nation.

He has taken part in a number of international conferences in many of the world’s countries with the cooperation of a good group of scholars.

  • at-Tafsîr (it is a large book in the process of completion, its name is at-Tadabbur wal-Bayân lil-Minhâj as-Salafî fî Tafsîr al-Qur’an)

  • al-Mufassirūn Bain at-Ta’wîl wal-Ithbât fî Âyât asSifât (4 vols.)

  • Fat·h al-Barr fit-Tartîb al-Fiqhî li-Tamhîd wa Istidhkâr Ibn ‘Abdil-Barr

  • Fat·h al-Kabîr fit-Tartîb al-Fiqhî li-Jâmi’ Ibn al-Athîr

  • al-‘Aqîdah as-Salafiyyah fî Masîratihâ at-Târîkhiyyah wa Qudratihâ ‘alâ Muwâjahah at-Tahaddiyât, and it is seven parts:

    • First: It·hâf al-Akhyâr bi Fadâ’il ‘Aqîdah as-Salaf al-Abrâr

    • Second: al-I’tisâm bil-Kitâb was-Sunnah wa Fahm as-Salaf ‘inda Dhuhūr al-Ahwâ’ wal-Bida’ wal-Fitan wal-Ikhtilâf

    • Third: asSahîh fî Tafsîl al-I’tiqâd min Hadyî Khair al-‘Ibâd

    • Fourth: Ahl al-Ahwâ’ wal-Bida’ wal-Fitan wal-Ikhtilâf ar-Râddūn lis-Sunnah wa Shibhuhum war-Radd ‘Alaihim

    • Fifth: Mughnî al-‘Uqalâ’ fî Bayân al-Mawâqif al-‘Aqadiyyah fî Da’wah an-Anbiyâ’

    • Sixth: al-Mawâqif al-‘Aqadiyyah wal-Asâlîb ad-Da’wiyyah fî Mawâjahah at-Tahaddiyât al-Jâhiliyyah min Khilâl Sahîh Sîrah Khair al-Bariyyah Sallâllah ‘Alaih wa Sallam

    • Seventh: Mawsū’ah Mawâqif as-Salaf fil-‘Aqîdah wal-Manhaj wat-Tarbiyah (10 vols.)

    As salaamu alaikum,

    Wow! You know, I never really followed what was the issue with the Shaykh, but I don’t recall the detractors really relaying his scholarship! This is the pattern of the salaf right here: Memorizing the Qur’aan, starting young, having many teachers, having many writings, and establishing institutions! Amazing! May Allaah preserve him.
