Canadian Consumers Being Gouged at the Pumps

More worldly matters to write about … .
CityNews ran a short story on their site today about the current situation with gas prices here in Canada.
For those of you who don’t know, generally, here in Canada—and more specifically in major cities like Toronto and Vancouver—gas prices have been ridiculously high (recently reaching $1.08CND/L at one point here in Toronto—not sure how much that works out to USD/gal).
Many people have been feeling that the high prices were due to some industry conspiracy to gouge consumers knowing that although the consumers will complain, they’ll still pay the ridiculous prices the filthy rich oil tycoons charge because of their dependence on cars to get around (especially in a big city like Toronto).
So anyhow, CityNews writes that the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives conducted a study that found that “[c]onsumers in this country are being cheated at the gas pump.” Big surprise there. The report confirms what many motorists have been feeling for the past couple of years now.
Perhaps instead of shopping for a new car, I should dust off my mountain bike and start riding to work more often, heh.
