A Few More Hours …

May 14, 2008

… until Shaikh ‘Alî Hasan al-Halabî is scheduled to arrive in town. Hopefully, this visit will exceed my personal expectations. It’s always a pleasure to see the shaikh. Just as ‘Atiyah Sidqî Sâlim mentioned in the quote I translated from him, the shaikh is very “sociable, easy-going, and always smiling.”

So far, everything seems to be set. I’ve just found out that the shaikh is scheduled to arrive in Toronto this Thursday Wednesday evening (which means, tonight). As mentioned earlier (as well as on the flier), the shaikh will be giving the Friday sermon @ QSSC, located at 1865B Lawrence Ave. East in Scarborough. He’s also scheduled to give a talk @ QSSC this Thursday evening.

For those of you in town planning to attend the Friday sermon or any of the lectures, if you’re coming by car, please avoid parking in the plaza parking lot as the neighbouring businesses have complained in the past about the parking situation. The centre’s administration has been asking everyone who drives to QSSC for Friday sermon (as well as for the conferences) to park on the side streets near by (i.e., Wexford Blvd. and Laxford Ave.), or in the city’s municipal parking (”green-P”) lot across the street (near the PizzaPizza).

A schedule for talks and lectures has been posted on the QSSC site, which includes where the shaikh will be speaking in the days following the conference. Check back for updates as the schedules for Thursday, May 22 and Sunday, May 25 have yet to be announced.

All the lectures taking place @ QSSC will be broadcast on PalTalk for out-of-towners and those who won’t be able to make it to the centre to see them live. Information regarding this can also be found on the QSSC site.

[...] The conference continues today, with Allah’s permission, with selections pertaining to knowledge from Ibn al-Qayyim’s book. For those of you unable to attend in person, again, the talks should be broadcast on PalTalk. You can find information on the room and everything else on the QSSC site. For those of you who will be attending, please remember to avoid parking in the plaza’s parking lot. Yesterday the lot was ram packed and I’m sure the businesses will be complaining about it. Please park on the side streets or in the city lot mentioned in my previous post. [...]
