And for Him is the praise, all of it is obligatory for His essence. So He does not exist except as praised just as He does not exist except as a god and as a lord and as capable. So when it is said, “the praise, all of it, is for Allah,” then this has two meanings.

Canadian Consumers Being Gouged at the Pumps

CityNews ran a short story on their site today about the current situation with gas prices here in Canada.
For those of you who don’t know, generally, here in Canada—and more specifically in major cities like Toronto and Vancouver—gas prices have been ridiculously high (recently reaching $1.08CND/L at one point here in Toronto—not sure how much that works out to USD/gal).
Browsing the same local news site mentioned in my previous post, I came across this story today: “Dying” Man Goes On Massive Spending Spree - Only To Find He’s Healthy. I received the following email yesterday (May 3, 2007). It was written by a dear friend of mine who is currently studying at the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia. His grandfather (may Allah have mercy on him) died recently and he wrote this reminder about death to his friends. I thought I would share it with those of you who visit my blog in hopes that what he (may Allah reward him greatly, increase him in patience, and make his heart at ease) wrote may benefit you in some way.
Encouragement for Reading al-Kahf on Fridays

From Abî Sa’îd al-Khudrî, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may Allah send salutations and peace upon him, said, «Whoever read sūrah al-Kahf (ch.18 of the Qur’an) on Friday,[1] what is between the two Fridays is illuminated for him by the Light.»[2]
It was narrated by an-Nasâ’î, al-Baihaqî in marfū’ (raised) form, al-Hâkim in marfū’ and mawqūf (stopped) forms also; and he said, “The chain is authentic.”
